Festival of Colors – Holi done right at Colive
What excites you more about Holi? Splashing water and colours or enjoying yummy delicacies? Dancing your heart out or drinking thandai? Well! We are sure each one of you must be having some or the other reason to be enthusiastic about this festival of colours. The different regions of the country observe Holi celebration in very different ways ranging from ‘LathmarHoli’ in UP to ‘MatkiPhodHoli’ in Maharashtra. With all these different kinds of Holi celebrations taking place in different regions; it’s also important to know about the legend behind the celebration of this festival. So, here we are taking you down the historical lanes to explain how this exuberant festival came into existence.
The story related to Holi goes like this that once there was an arrogant king Hiranyakashipu. He wanted everyone in his kingdom to worship him but his own son, Prahlada denied doing so and worshiped lord Vishnu instead. Knowing about this, the king made several attempts to kill his own son but failed each time. So, the king’s sister Holika who is said to be immune to fire took Prahlada and sat in a huge fire. But to everyone’s surprise, Prahlada got saved and Holika got burnt in the fire. Hence, as a symbolisation of this event from mythology; huge bonfires are burnt on the eve of Holi as a testament to the end of evil. So, that’s how holi celebration started!
